More in Store for 2004!
In response to the unparalleled success of the 2003 event, Plant Tour Days is growing to include cut flowers, propagators and outdoor ornamentals. This is in addition to the fine array of quality indoor / outdoor foliage and florist quality specialty / patio plants that attendees have become accustomed to visiting in Southern California in the spring each year. "We've expanded the list of products that will be on display this year," says committee co-chair Denise Godfrey of Olive Hill Greenhouses. "Buyer's who have attended previously often buy for other green goods departments and we wanted to help them maximize their time during their visit." Connecting buyers with growers in a friendly atmosphere is what Plant Tour Days is all about. Within a few days visitors have the opportunity to meet with nearly 40 quality greenhouse and field facilities that produce a wide selection of plant material. Southern California Plant Tour Days 2004 is scheduled for February 24-27.
In response to the request of attendees, the first day of the event will feature an even further expanded Plant Showcase held at the San Diego County Fairgrounds in Del Mar, California. Nearly 40 host nurseries will display their plant selections to enable buyers to get a preview of what is in store for them during the tours. "We're very excited about the list of participating nurseries for the 2004 event," explains Godfrey. "Some of the biggest names in horticulture will be participating in what will once again prove to be a beneficial experience for both buyers and growers alike." Past years have shown that the format for the Plant Showcase is essential in assisting buyers to determine which sources will serve their needs and requirements. It allows them the opportunity to do side-by-side comparisons, plan their visits for the next few days and to visit with the growers and other industry professionals in a low-key atmosphere to exchange ideas and information.
